Conceptual Project
Victims of abuse suffer from a loss of control after experiencing traumatizing events. The design of the counselling center will strive to support patients to regain a feeling of control. This will be achieved by modular design that the patient can manipulate and re-configure to suit their comfort and preference. The incorporation of modular design through architectural features and furniture, both in large and small scales, will support patients to feel in control of their environments. Designing to allow patient control will encourage confidence and support trust which is necessary in a therapeutic environment. Biophilic elements, with an emphasis on integrating garden feature, will further support an atmosphere of trust. Biophilic elements are known to reduce stress and anxiety and encourage feelings of relaxation in patients.
